Beaufort County is now managing Melrose Landing Road.
This includes all the parking areas, structures, walkways, the main pier and pier head, and docking facilities on the northeast side of the pier.
Beaufort County and Redfish Holdings have finished a settlement that divides responsibility for Melrose Landing on Daufuskie Island. This is a big step in the County’s plan to make public ferry access more reliable and safer at the dock.
Redfish Holdings will keep ownership of the docking facilities on the southwest side and an adjacent 1.15-acre lot along Cooper River Landing Road for the Melrose Resort.
Each company will manage its own part of the site according to the terms of the settlement.
Jan Vreeburg from Redfish Holdings says the transition helps both residents and visitors get better access and more coordinated operations. Important repairs and upgrades will improve safety. These include fixing or removing dangerous floating docks, replacing decks and handrails, and repairing the boarding barge to support ferry service. Better walking paths, updated facilities, and changes to parking layouts will help visitors and locals as well.
The agreement between Beaufort County and Redfish Holdings allows both sides to work together on marina operations.
This shows both sides are committed to keeping Daufuskie Island open, strong, and economically healthy. Transition work is already underway. Those affected, like tenants and slip holders, will get direct updates as things move forward.
