Correct Posture for Your Golf Swing

Proper posture has been drilled into us since childhood by parents, teachers, and coaches. But did you know that good posture is just as essential for your golf game? Poor posture doesn’t just affect your swing; it can lead to injuries like lower back pain or strain. Luckily, adopting the right golf posture can elevate your game and keep you pain-free.
Why Proper Posture Matters
With the correct posture, you’ll enjoy:
- Better, more consistent technique
- Smooth, natural motion
- Reduced risk of injury
- More putts sinking in with improved precision
Fun and Easy Tips for Perfect Golf Posture
Here are three simple posture tips to get you swinging like a pro. They’re practical, effective, and just a bit fun!
1. Salute the General
Stand tall, salute-style! This naturally engages your core, squares your shoulders, and pushes your chest forward without tension. It puts your spine in a neutral, balanced position, perfect for a controlled swing.
2. Alligator Arms
Picture a strong alligator with small, close-to-the-body arms. When gripping your club, keep your elbows tucked into your ribs. Your forearms and the club shaft should sit at a right angle to your spine. This positioning encourages the use of your shoulders (slow-twitch muscles) instead of relying on your hands and wrists (fast-twitch muscles) for control.
3. Close the Car Door
Bend forward at the hips and imagine closing a car door with your backside. This slight motion ensures your weight sits properly over your heels, engaging your core and stabilizing your stance. Think of it like “boxing out” in sports like basketball or soccer.
The Science Behind It
These three posture techniques create a pendulum motion under your chest. Like an engineer’s pendulum, this rhythmic motion enhances accuracy in both distance and direction.
