Want to have a weekend with your besties that you will never forget?

Then you have to plan a girls’ trip to Daufuskie Island. I speak from experience in saying that it is a BLAST! Except to catch the boat to and from, there are no timelines. Peace and fun is what this weekend is all about. Here are some ideas and tips to make it even better for you and your crew.
Where to stay:
We have had great luck renting a home on Daufuskie. There are many more options out there than you would think. Most of them have at least three bedrooms and sleep many more. Everybody just picks a room, with or without a roomie, when we get to the house. It’s always fun to be surprised as you enter your weekend cottage and see how each owner adds their own Daufuskie touches to their place.
Most accommodations have a grill on site, as well as lawn chairs. All of the utensils and cooking equipment is there, too. So, no need to pack any plastic silverware or plates. You may want to bring an extra roll of paper towels, just in case.
Golf Carts:
You HAVE to get a gold cart! Cars are not allowed over on the ferry, and you don’t want one, anyways. It’s Daufuskie after all! A golf cart is the best way to tool around the Island and see things at a slower pace. We usually get one for every three people. That way you all aren’t crammed into one, and there’s less of a chance of someone falling off and being left on the side of the dirt roads. Don’t laugh – it has happened! Getting more than one cart also allows for a few people to check out the beach, while the others go to the General Store.
Bringing Food:
My girlfriends and I always dedicate certain people to bring certain items or meals. For instance, a chef friend of mine brought all of the ingredients to try out a shrimp dish on us. She packed up all she needed and wheeled it over on the ferry in a cooler. It was amazing. She even ended up naming it after Daufuskie Island!
Another friend, Pauline, pre-made a breakfast casserole. She placed it in a well-sealed pyrex dish, and it was take and bake. Tammy was in charge of hot dogs. She brought the dogs, buns, condiments and charcoal, viola! An easy Daufuskie BBQ.
Since I am a less-than-stellar cook, I was designated with bringing the coffee, cream and sugar. Trust me, other than the wine, it’s the most important item you will want to have LOTS of. Especially after consuming the aforementioned wine the night before. That being said, let’s move on to the alcohol.
Booze:
You and your girlfriends may not be big consumers, but our group likes our drinks. You certainly don’t need it to enjoy your weekend. But if you do, remember there are no big groceries or 24-hour convenience stores on Daufuskie. So be prepared. And that goes for any other snacks, sodas or other tasty treats you may desire while you are here.
Going out:
Keep it casual when it comes to clothes. There are no dress codes at our favorite haunts. But do plan to eat out at least once. We always hit up Lucy Belles and the Old Daufuskie Crab Co. Restaurant, to grab lunch or a Scrap Iron cocktail.
Staying in:
GAMES! We play games almost half of the time we are on the Island. It’s the perfect place and time to turn off the phones and have some old-fashioned fun. Poker, Cards Against Humanity and Tripoli are just a few of our faves. And, if betting were legal, we would bring some quarters to ante up and raise the stakes. But, since it isn’t, we don’t. Just sayin’. Plus, little-known fact, games and wine go together quite well.
Seeing the Island:
We always cart around the whole island to see what has changed, but more to see what has not changed. It’s so fun to see familiar spots, and trying to remember where you got lost that one time. And, then, getting lost again. But who cares? You are on Island time. And it’s the best time ever.
Also, you have to check out the Iron Art Fish Gallery. Chase Allen’s art work is amazing and so is his studio. But, if he’s not there, and you would like to purchase one of his pieces, no problem. Just leave a check or cash in the designated spot and take it with you. He uses the honor system. How cool is that? Only on Daufuskie.
I hope this gives you just a hint of what’s in store if you opt for a girls’ trip to Daufuskie.
I’d prefer not to mention any other details, because, you know, what happens on Daufuskie, stays on Daufuskie. Have fun and please send us an account of your Daufuskie Island experience by going to this link, https://www.daufuskieisland.com/share-your-daufuskie-memories-on-daufuskieisland-com/.
