1. April is a perfect month for golfing on St. Simons Island.
With blooming azaleas, cool breezes, mild temperatures and new growth everywhere you look, April is an ideal time to spend time outdoors and engage in golf.
2. Play to play!
Golf is not an easy game, but it is a game of ease, and it’s a leisure sport as well as a recreational sport. If played correctly — with a physically relaxed form and low expectations — it can refresh and revitalize.
3. The Annual RBC Heritage Classic comes to neighboring Hilton Head April 12-18.
Watch Columbia South Carolina’s own Dustin Johnson, the #1 player in the world, play in this exciting annual event and golfing highlight on Hilton Head. Limited spectators will be allowed this year, and buying tickets contributes to the more than $40 million that has been distributed to those in need throughout the Lowcountry since 1987. Visit www.rbcheritage.com or call (843) 671-2448.
4. Get a lesson from a pro just a ferry ride away.
Every Monday, I give free lessons from 4-5 p.m. at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort on HIlton Head Island. I perform trick shots and share golfing tips in a hands-on, interactive workshop. Volunteer for a lesson and get the chance to win a prize! I also offer a special “Play with the pro and learn as you go” option. Seize the opportunity to play a championship golf course with a pro, sharpen your skills, save strokes, find out what you should be doing with your ears when you chip and learn why golf is truly a game of opposites!
Haig Point Golf Club on Daufuskie offers two golf courses.
Haig Point’s Rees Jones Signature course is listed in Golf Digest’s “America’s 100 Greatest Courses” and “Best in State”. The Signature course is also listed on Golf Magazine’s “Top 100 in the World.” The other course in Haig Point is the Osprey, which is 9-holes for a shorter game.
Enjoy this beautiful month out on the course, and be sure to wear a hat and sunscreen!
