Here are some tips about what to pack and how to pack it when you come to Daufuskie.
Getting there:
USE WHEELS! Bring study, enclosed luggage the has wheels. A cooler with wheels is ideal. It also can double as a makeshift seat, while you are waiting to embark. Stay away from wagons, as things are likely to shift on the ferry, golf carts and on the Island’s dirt roads.
Bath and Body:
Most rental accommodations on the island do not offer toiletries. Pack soap, hairdryers and any other personal things you may need. Towels and toilet paper will be on hand.
Food and Drink:
Daufuskie does have some great restaurants, but you will probably not be eating every meal out. The general store does offer a little bit of everything you will need, but it’s no Publix. Consider bringing some prepared meals, especially if your ideal vacation does not include cooking. And bringing every loose ingredient can invade that coveted luggage space.
If you have a favorite adult beverage, be sure to bring it with you, as there are no full liquor stores available. You can pick up a bottle of homegrown spirits and the Silver Dew Winery or the Daufuskie Island Rum Company.
Fire up the barbecue.
When you rent your accommodations, you can find out if there is an onsite grill. Pack some hot dogs, buns, condiments and charcoal, and you are good to go!
Do NOT forget the coffee. What’s worse than waking up in the morning, only to find out you have no coffee?!? Make sure it’s ground and don’t forget your cream and sugar.
Pack for Fun:
Board games and cards are a perfect form of entertainment on this lazy Island. You will have tv, cell service and Wifi, but Daufuskie is a place to unplug. A spirited game that includes everyone will surely make memories.
These tips should help you in your planning process. But make a list, check it twice and you’ll be glad you did!
